Stop smoking with Hypnotherapy
Stopping smoking with hypnosis has been shown to be three times more effective than nicotine replacement therapy according to a review of 600 research studies involving early 72,000 participants. Professor Frank Schmidt’s, University of Iowa, results were published in the Journal of Applied Psychology and backed up what thousands of hypnotherapists and their successful clients already knew.
Relying on willpower alone results in a battle of wills between your conscious mind which knows it should stop – for health reasons, financial reasons, perhaps to please a loved one – and your unconscious mind. It is the unconscious mind which throws up all those excuses and which makes deep rooted associations between smoking and a range of activities, including ‘concentrating’, enjoying yourself, relaxing, relieving boredom and stress relief.
How hypnosis helps
In a state of deep relaxation, when the mind is much more receptive to suggestions than when it is confronted by the ‘noise’ of everyday thoughts and life, the old, deep rooted associations and ideas – the reasons which keep you smoking even though you want to stop – will be replaced with new understandings. In a state of hypnosis, during which you are fully aware, your unconscious mind will accept new suggestions and associations, whilst visualising a new, healthier future. Using a combination of NLP, CBT and visualisation any self limiting beliefs – such as the belief that you have no willpower, or that it is too late for you to stop – will become a thing of the past.
You might be worried about gaining weight and replacing one bad habit with another. But hypnosis will help you to replace the desire to smoke with a deep rooted desire to be healthy, in control, confident and fitter. The mood swings, cravings and irritability which may be experienced when using willpower alone will be replaced by strategies which help you feel calmer, more relaxed and more healthy.
